Tuning In To God Scripture Reading Matthew 6:5-15 "And when you pray, you are not to be as the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, in order to be seen by men. "Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you. "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. "Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him. "Pray, then, in this way; 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. They kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen." "For if you forgive men for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. "But if you do not forgive men, then you Father will not forgive your transgressions.
What's the Big Idea?? "Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." Matt. 6:5-15 Think of it this way: What if took my IPOD and give it to someone who didn't know how to use it? They couldn't really enjoy it, could they? Probably one of the most important things they would need to do would be to turn it on, right? Then they would need to know how to find the music that was stored on it. Unless they could do this it really wouldn't be of much use to them. In a way, prayer is something like that IPOD. We have to know how to get it to work before we can listen to it. We have to be "tuned" into God's will before we can "tune in" God's power and God's blessings. When some people pray, all they are concerned about is getting God to do what they want Him to do-like helping them get good grades in school or a new bike for their birthday. They are not concerned with what God wants, but only with what they want. We should always remember when we pray to seek to tune in to our will's and our desires with God's. We should always remember to put what He wants first, realizing that we don't always know what's best for us, but God does. God will do what is best for us. So when we pray, "Your will, God not mine, be done," we are tuning ourselves into God's power and love, and only good things will result from our prayers. |
