Put On the

A life with Christ begins with learning, affirming, and trusting in each part of the armor.

The first part is truth...God's revelation of all that He is to us, and all that He has done for us.

He has given us  many promises for the future also.

The truth is written in the Bible, God's inspired Word. It is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit, and made real to us through Jesus Christ.

When you study and follow God's Word, you will see the world in a different way, from a higher vantage point, His throne room.

So, putting on the first piece of armor means feeding on truth through daily Bible reading and making it part of yourself.

This is known as the Belt of Truth. Scriptures to study are: Deut. 4:39; Psalm 23:1;18:1-3. This deals with His Sovereignty, love wisdom and holiness.

God wants us to tie this belt of truth around us tight. God loves you and Jesus Christ died for your sins. That is the truth! It will hold you up and keep you strong like a belt would hold up a pair of pants.

Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Next we must guard our heart.

We must put on the Breastplate of Righteousness.

God wants us to do what is right and good. Satan won't be able to take hold of you and sneak you into his ways. The Righteousness of Jesus Christ will be in you. Scriptures to study are: Psalm 100:3; Rom. 3:23-24, 6:23; Gal.2:20-21; Phil. 3:8-10. This speaks of Christ and His blood, which cleanses us from sin. The cross which frees us from the bondage of sin. This gives us right standing with God.

Then we must put on the sandals of the Gospel of Peace.

Be should be ready to go wherever God sends us to tell the Good News of God's amazing love for us. This gives us inner peace and happiness. Scriptures to study are: Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:14; John 14:27,16:33,20:21. This speaks of our peace through our union and ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ. It will help us to be sure footed for going forward into battle and supported with the message of the Scriptures. We can stand firm while having inner peace with the knowledge of God's Word.

To protect ourselves from Satan's flaming arrows, we must then take up the Shield of Faith.

By faith we can know that the God that rules the Universe is on your side. He is your protector. When you put on the Shield of Faith and live by faith alone in Christ alone, Satan can't touch you. Scripture to study are: Rom. 4:14-21; Heb. 11:1; 1Pet. 1:6-7. This speaks to us of our continual trust in God, His Word, and His promises. Jesus is the Provider, Author and Perfector of a believer's faith. We are saved by faith in Him. Trust and belief in Him shields us and protects us.

Now we can put on the Helmet of Salvation.

Awesome you are saved and are a child of God. Christ has won the victory and Satan has already lost. Death is already defeated, and nothing can ever take you away from God. Scriptures to study are: Ps. 16, 23: Heb. 1:3-6. God's promises of daily and eternal salvation in Jesus Christ. Now we have hope and victory in the resurrected body for eternal life.

Finally, we take up the Sword of the Spirit

God has given us a weapon to fight back against Satan's lies and accusations. Our weapon is the truth of God's Word. It is the Bible. God's Word can cut through all the lies that Satan comes up with. Scriptures to study are: Heb. 4:12; Matt. 4:2-11; 1 Pet. 3:15; Ps. 119:110-112. Remember, the words of the Bible are your sword. It is the power of God's Word to counter all the deception and win over our spiritual enemy. So we need to depend upon His Word and God in daily living and in prayer.
